Bernama reported on 14 October 2026 that the SEA Games in Malaysia are scheduled for 18 to 29 September 2027 across four clusters in Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak, Penang and Johor. About 492 events in 43 sports were planned, though the total had yet to be finalised.
Athlete numbers were estimated at 7,000 to 8,000, with athletes and officials housed in three-star hotels and above rather than a traditional sports village. The final list of sports was expected to be confirmed by the end of October or early November 2026.
